the Animals

The Animals

Cling Clang, Ping Pang
The moon smiles its sweet delight
Whirr howl, sneer growl
The animals will dance tonight

The rivers run red
The trees have been bled
The ground quivers in its fright
And as the clouds weep
And the children creep
The animals still dance tonight

Another time,
Another place,
Perhaps we’d stop
This sad disgrace
But not here, not now
With such fear, such doubt
And the gods --- they just point and laugh

And so men are born
And bred to scorn
And nothing ever seems to change
They come, they go
Some fast, some slow
Murderous in their unwitting rage

As so the gods still dance
And they laugh and they prance
While we lie here, all but forgotten
With old men crying, and young men dieing
We’re left here like something rotten

So while they laugh in delight
As we panic in fright
Like a mouse running head over end
Just remember my friend
This message I send
That the animals will dance tonight
